Acne and Acne Scars Can Be Traumatic
Acne vulgaris, more commonly known as acne, is a skin disease often associated with adolescence. If you were that pimply kid in school, you know how embarrassing it is. However, you can still suffer from acne even as an adult, either as breakouts or in a more continuous bout.
Acne comes in many forms - as pimples, black or whiteheads, pustules, or as red scaly patches. It can be caused by hormonal imbalances but can also be triggered by stress or certain foods. You can get acne as a reaction to bacteria. And some people, unfortunately, are just genetically predisposed to acne.
Perhaps just as disturbing for people with acne are the scars that can be left behind long after the breakout. Only 5% who suffer from acne are lucky enough to not have any scarring.
Because of the detrimental impact of acne and acne scarring on a person’s physical appearance as well as his/her confidence level, a lot of people go to great lengths to find ways to treat active acne and acne scars.
If you’re one of those who suffer from this skin condition, the Spectra Laser Peel is the perfect solution for you.
Treat Active Acne and Acne Scars with Spectra Laser Peel
While there is no cure for acne, the Spectra Laser Peel can dramatically lessen and keep under control all types of acne . It is safe even for active and inflamed acne and can reduce redness. What’s more, it can reduce the recurrence of breakouts, as well as shrink the size of pores.
The Spectra Laser Peel offers an effective and long-term solution to acne scarring.
What is the Spectra Laser Peel and How Does It Work?
The Spectra Laser Peel is an FDA-approved skin resurfacing treatment that uses laser pulses and wavelengths, assisted by carbon, to gently exfoliate skin. This treatment is suitable for most skin types.
Popular among Hollywood stars because of the visible results it yields after treatment, it can reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyper pigmentation issues including melasma, freckles, and dark spots. And, as mentioned above, it can help with acne breakouts and scars.
The laser is used in two modes, with each mode targeting different parts of the skin.
Used in this mode, the laser is directed towards the dermis, the skin layer below the outermost layer of the skin. It goes down deep into the layer which results in stimulation of skin cell regeneration and production of collagen.
The heat from the laser addresses inflammation in the skin. It dries up ongoing outbreaks and helps kill active bacterial infection.
The laser acts to decrease activity of the sebaceous glands which leads to lesser production of sebum. Excessive sebum is one of the culprits of an acne breakout.
A specially formulated carbon-based lotion is applied as part of the treatment. Used in this mode, the laser acts on the carbon particles in the lotion and causes these to vaporize. This results in a light exfoliation of the outermost skin layer that leaves the skin looking fresh, clean, and glowy. It is during this mode that any acne scarring is addressed.
In the Q-switched mode, the laser also targets the melanin that causes brown spots, freckles, or melasma. It breaks down the pigment into smaller particles that are naturally eliminated by the body.

What To Expect During Your Spectra Laser Peel Treatment
A Spectra Laser Peel treatment is pretty straightforward. There’s no need for lengthy preparations.
On the day of your appointment, your face will be thoroughly cleansed. While the treatment is relatively painless, some people still opt for a topical anesthetic to keep comfortable during the procedure. It takes approximately 20 minutes for the anesthetic to take effect.
SpectraLotion™, a carbon based lotion specially designed for this treatment, is thinly and evenly applied to the skin before the laser is applied. The lotion is allowed to absorb for 10 minutes before the laser is applied.
During the treatment, do not be alarmed to hear snapping sounds as the laser is used on the skin. It’s normal to feel a slightly warm, tingling sensation. While it may be a mild heat sensation, your specialist may use a saline spray in between passes of the laser to keep you comfortable.
A typical treatment takes less than an hour and you may go back to your usual activities after the treatment.
If you are using the Spectra Laser Peel to treat active acne and acne scars, several appointments scheduled at one to two week intervals may be necessary until the acne is controlled.
Are There Side Effects?
The Spectra Laser Peel is a gentle, non-invasive procedure, and adverse side effects are very rare. A slight reddening of the skin after the treatment is expected. However, this should resolve itself within hours after the treatment.
For some patients, there may be swelling or itching for a few days.
There may be risk of infection but this can be kept to a minimum by choosing a provider who is trained and experienced in administering the Spectra Laser Peel.
Your specialist may advise you to observe the following precautions after the treatment:
✔️ Avoid exposure to sun 12 to 24 hours after the treatment
✔️ Use a sunscreen with SPF50 whenever you step out
✔️ Avoid hot showers or saunas after the treatment
✔️ Use a gentle oil free cleanser 2 to 3 times a day to wash your face
✔️ Avoid products with Retin-A, hydroquinone, glycolic or azelaic acids, or corticosteroids
