How Does the Spectra Laser Peel Work?
The Spectra Laser Peel uses laser wavelengths and pulses assisted by carbon to gently resurface and exfoliate your skin.
During a Spectra Laser Peel treatment, the laser is used in two modes. Each mode acts on different skin layers to yield the results you desire:
Spectra Mode: In this mode, the laser targets the dermis or the skin layers below what you know as your skin (epidermis).
The laser works to stimulate skin cell regeneration and production of collagen, the protein that gives structure and volume to our skin. At this stage of the treatment, any inflammation in your skin is also addressed.
Q-Switched Mode. After several passes of the laser on Spectra mode, the laser is then used on Q-Switched mode. This time, the laser targets the carbon contained in the Spectra lotion applied prior to the start of the treatment.
This helps in exfoliation of old skin cells from the epidermis (outermost skin layer). The laser likewise targets melanin that causes age spots, freckles, or melasma. The pigment is broken down and safely passed out of the body through natural processes.
Unlike other laser treatments, Spectra uses gentle light that allows multiple passes of the laser. Because it causes no harsh effects on the skin, it’s possible to go back to your usual activities right after a Spectra treatment.
What Can a Spectra Laser Peel Do For You?

✔️ It’s quick, gentle, and involves no downtime
✔️ The results are dramatic and gives you youthful looking skin
✔️ Because it’s gentle, it can be performed countless times without harsh effects

What To Expect During a Spectra Laser Peel?
Unlike other skin treatments, there are no special pre-treatment preparations needed before your Spectra Laser Peel appointment.
Prior to the treatment, the skin will be thoroughly cleaned. A topical anesthesia may be applied to keep you comfortable during the treatment. Most patients skip this step.
SpectraLotion™, a carbon based lotion specially formulated for the treatment, is evenly and thinly applied to the face. It may look like you have a mud pack on. The lotion has fine carbon particles that can penetrate acne scars or into pores.
As mentioned above, the laser is used in two modes. During the treatment:
Skin cell regeneration and collagen production is stimulated as the laser penetrates into the dermis layer.
The laser also lightly ablates and exfoliates dead skin cells on the epidermis.
As treatment progresses, the laser synthesizes the fine carbon particles. This helps reduce the production of sebum and prevents the development of acne. It also helps shrink the size of pores resulting in finer looking skin.
The laser acts on melanin that causes pigmentation issues including freckles, age spots, and melasma. It breaks down the pigment into tiny particles which allows the body to pass it out through natural processes.
During the treatment process, it’s normal to hear snapping sounds as the laser is passed over the skin. It may also make your skin feel tingly and warm. To keep your skin cool during the treatment, your specialist may spray your skin with a saline solution between passes of the laser.
A typical Spectra Laser Peel appointment takes less than an hour.
A single treatment will already yield dramatic results. However, we recommend up to three treatments spaced two weeks between in order to achieve maximum results. You can repeat the treatment two to three times a year.
What Side Effects Should I Expect?
You may see some slight reddening of the skin after the treatment. However, this usually subsides within hours after the treatment.
Some patients report experiencing some swelling or itching for a few days.
Among the rare side effects are bruising, scabbing, or temporary hypo or hyper-pigmentation.
While Spectra is very safe, there is still some risk of infection. Therefore, for the best Spectra Laser Peel, look for a provider who is trained, licensed and experienced. Doing your research lessens your risks of unwanted side effects.
Any After-Treatment Care?
The Spectra Laser Peel is a quick, no-downtime treatment. However, we still advise patients to follow some after treatment care, including:
✔️ Avoiding extreme heat (hot showers or sauna) after the treatment
✔️ Keeping out of direct sunlight 12 to 24 hours after treatment. (Use an SPF50 sunscreen)
✔️ Washing the face 2 to 3 times a day with a gentle oil free cleanser
✔️ Keeping away from facial scrubs
✔️ Refraining using products with Retin-A, hydroquinone, glycolic, or azelaic acids or corticosteroids
✔️ Keeping beddings clean
