What is a Non-Surgical Buttocks Lift?
For many years, the only way to have a more contoured and plumper posterior was to augment it surgically. Although this method surely delivers results, surgical buttocks lifts are also invasive and require a long recovery time.
A non-surgical buttocks lift, in particular a Radiesse buttocks lift, offers a quicker alternative. What’s best, it does not require going under the knife and there’s no or very little downtime.
A non-surgical buttocks lift using dermal fillers is the IT procedure to have as of late. At Skin Theory Aesthetic, we use Radiesse, a dermal filler traditionally used to address facial wrinkles and sagging as well as volume loss in the back of the hands. Lately, Radiesse has been found effective in adding volume and firmness to droopy derrieres.
Radiesse comes in a form of Calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. For the non-surgical buttocks lift, Radiesse is injected under the skin where collagen is produced.
The gel gives the initial lift in the buttocks, however, full results appear 6 weeks after the treatment. When the gel is absorbed by the body, the particles of Radiesse are left and these stimulate production of collagen. This gives the buttocks the lift it needs.
Because of the collagen-stimulating characteristic of Radiesse, results of treatment can last from 2 to 5 years.
Why Do Your Buttocks Droop?
Just like any part of your body, the buttocks lose tissue elasticity and this leads to sagging posteriors. What are the factors that contribute to this loss of elasticity?
Aging. As we age, the gluteal muscles weaken due to loss of elastin and collagen. This causes sagging and drooping.
Weight fluctuations. Drastic loss of weight results in loss of fat, even in your derriere area. With nothing to support the skin underneath, your bum will understandably look wrinkled and shriveled. On the other hand, weight gain can also make your buttocks look droopy.
Pregnancy. With the extra weight that you need to carry in front, your pelvis will tend to tilt forward to compensate. As a result, your hamstrings will become underused and this leads to drooping in the buttocks area.
Genetic predisposition. Some people are just born with nice, rounded buttocks. Some people are not so lucky. They may not have droopy bums but just flat ones.
Sun damage. If you’re fond of the beach and sunbathing, you may forget to put sunscreen on certain parts of your body, your buttocks included. This can result in brown spots, wrinkling, and sagging.
Why Opt for a Non-Surgical Buttocks Lift?
The main benefit of a non-surgical buttocks lift is, surprise surprise, the absence of surgery. Surgery is invasive and, thus, inherently risky. It needs a lot of pre-surgery preparation especially if you have pre existing conditions that can make it even more risky for some patients.
The recovery period after a buttocks augmentation surgery can take a long time. And your activities may be limited while you recover.
Because a non-surgical buttocks lift is non-invasive, it offers several benefits:
No incisions are made, so there will be no postoperative scarring
There’s no liposuction, either
There is very little or no downtime, so patients can return to their regular activities shortly after the procedure
In addition, it offers the following benefits:
Though there will be initial lift because of the gel in Radiesse, results appear gradually as collagen production kicks in resulting in a natural looking end result
It improves the texture of the skin and fix irregularities
It can lessen the look of cellulite and stretch marks
Results are long lasting (2 to 5 years) though not permanent
Non-Surgical Buttocks Lift: What To Expect?
While a Radiesse dermal filler buttocks lift is non-invasive, it is still a procedure. It’s important to have a pre-treatment consultation to assess if the treatment is appropriate for your needs and expectations.
To minimize related risks, your specialist will need to know your medical history - pre-existing conditions such as bleeding, allergies, infections, etc and what medications you’re currently taking.
You will also be advised to take certain precautions, including:
Avoiding ibuprofen and other NSAIDS to minimize risk of bleeding during the treatment
Stopping smoking or vaping 48 hours before your treatment
Not drinking alcohol for 48 hours prior to your treatment
Stopping herbal supplements you may be taking 2 weeks prior to your appointment
To prepare you for the administration of Radiesse dermal filler, the treatment area will be thoroughly sanitized and sterilized to avoid risk of infection. Though no anesthesia will be used, a topical anesthetic may be administered by your specialist to help with any discomfort during and after the procedure.
When the area is sufficiently numbed, a blunt tip cannula is used to inject Radiesse under the skin where collagen is produced. It may take several treatments spaced 4 months apart to achieve your desired results.
Each treatment session lasts for approximately 30 minutes.
After Treatment Care
Expect some soreness or pain in the gluteal area. However, this should get better after a week. You may be able to go back to normal activities in a couple of days after the treatment.
You will be instructed to sleep on your belly or on your side for 2 weeks to allow the results of the treatment to settle and take effect.
Non-Surgical Buttocks Lift - Possible Side Effects
Here are the usual side effects of Radiesse (non-surgical) buttocks lift:
Bleeding at the treatment area
Rash or itching
Lumps or bumps
Here are the more serious side effects that need to be given medical attention as soon as possible:
Yellow or green discharge at the site of the injection
The above mentioned symptoms are signs of infection which may result, especially if the person who administered the treatment is inexperienced or worse unqualified and non-certified.
We cannot reiterate enough how important it is to go to a reputable provider like Skin Theory which has specialists that can administer a Radiesse buttocks lift safely and expertly.
